NFPA Rope Rescue Technician

This seven-day Rope Rescue Technician course meets the requirements of NFPA 1006 (2021 Edition), Chapter 5 – Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications, and covers all applicable Job Performance Requirements (JPRs) for Rope Rescue Technician as consolidated under NFPA 2500 (formerly NFPA 1006 and NFPA 1670).

The program focuses on rope rescue operations in high-angle environments, emphasizing system construction, operational safety, and real-world problem solving. Students will receive classroom instruction supported by extensive hands-on practical application designed to develop technical proficiency, critical thinking, and efficient rigging practices. This is an intensive, performance-based course intended for personnel operating at the technician level.

Rope Rescue Theory

  • Lowering systems

Belay Systems

  • Twin Tension System
  • Slack Belay System
  • Traveling Fall Arrest System

Patient Packaging & Movement

  • Patient packaging and litter operations
  • Low-angle rescue operations
  • High-angle ascending and descending
  • High-angle litter tending
  • Horizontal movement systems:
    • Skate block
    • Tensioned high-line
    • Cross haul

Rescue Scenarios

  • Stranded victim rescues:
    • Traversing structures
    • Work-positioning aids
    • Clinging victim scenarios
  • Suspended victim rescue
  • High-angle self-rescue
  • Lead climbing and work positioning with lanyards
  • Freeing jammed or malfunctioning equipment
  • Construction and operation of tensioned high-lines

Throughout the course, students will apply skills in progressively complex rescue scenarios, reinforcing safe system management, communication, and leadership in technical rope rescue operations
